Aberdeen midfielder Jonny Hayes capped a memorable week when he collected a hat-trick of honours at the Dons’ annual awards dinner at the AECC last night.
Hayes was named player of the year and also collected the players’ player of the year accolade and goal of the season for his strike against Celtic in the 2-1 win at Pittodrie.
The treble came 24 hours after Hayes was named on the four-man shortlist for the PFA Scotland player of the year.
Former Caley Thistle player Hayes has scored five goals for the Dons in 38 appearances this season and provided 10 assists with his displays culminating in the Dubliner making his international debut for the Republic of Ireland last month.
Hayes paid tribute to the management team for their part in his form being recognised.
He said: “The manager and Tony Docherty have given me confidence and self-belief as the season has progressed and I feel I’ve been more consistent.
“I’ve always had a good relationship with the supporters since I arrived and I’m grateful for their support in voting for me.”
Fellow midfielder Craig Storie was named young player of the year by manager Derek McInnes in recognition of his breakthrough into the first team this season.
McInnes also chose the development player of the year which went to defender Scott McKenna.
Goalkeeper Scott Brown was named AFC Community Trust supporter of the year for his work in the community.
