Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has warned his players they will have their work cut out when the form team in the country visits Pittodrie today.
Motherwell have won more points in their previous eight matches than any other side in the Scottish Premiership with six wins and two defeats.
The 18 points accumulated by Mark McGhee’s side is two more than Celtic and five more than the Dons have earned over the same period.
Aberdeen, however, boast a formidable home record with only one defeat at Pittodrie this season – a 5-1 thumping by St Johnstone in October – and McInnes believes his Reds can return to winning ways after last week’s surprise 3-0 defeat at McDiarmid Park.
He said: “Three of our last four have been away from home, so we are delighted to be back at Pittodrie. Our last performance at home was very convincing against Hamilton. It was a brilliant display.
“Three of the next four are at home and we want to try and maximise that advantage.
“Motherwell are probably the form team in the Premiership just now and Mark McGhee has done brilliant work with his players in the last two months.
“He has given them an added goal threat and a way of playing that suits them. There are goals in them and the front three are a handful but we have plenty to play for and it’s a game we should be expected to win but we should expect to play well to win the game.”
Celtic could be crowned champions today if Ronny Deila’s side defeat Hearts this lunchtime and the Dons fail to defeat Motherwell.
McInnes, who welcomes top scorer Adam Rooney back from injury, added: “The Scottish game is always on before matches and we usually watch the first half of any Scottish game but from 1.15pm we are busy.
“We’ll know soon enough about the Celtic score and how it pans out. The time for reflecting on the season is at the end of the season.
“Rather than reflect on disappointments, ifs, buts and maybes we have to finish the season as strongly as possible because we still have plenty to play for and loads of little targets we would like to meet.
“It’s important supporters see players going full-pelt to the end of the season. We will finish where we deserve to finish.”
