Derek McInnes has been quick off the mark with his signings in the close season, but the Aberdeen manager insists this will not be a summer of revolution at Pittodrie.
Attackers Jayden Stockley and Miles Storey have both signed pre-contracts to join the Dons.
A goalkeeper to replace Scott Brown, who was freed at the end of the season, and central defence and midfield reinforcements figure high on McInnes’ list of priorities, but he believes he already has the nucleus of a squad capable of challenging this summer.
He said: “We’ve already strengthened the squad with the arrivals of Jayden and Miles and we’re looking to bring in more players.
“We’ve done a lot of good work in the last few seasons to get some stability and the players are happy here as they are a team which can potentially bring success.
“We are in a good place in terms of the squad and there won’t be wholesale changes this summer.
“Subtle changes will be made to try to improve the starting 11.”
Aberdeen fell short of beating Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title after a disappointing finish to the campaign but the manager is confident his side can mount another challenge in league and cup competitions next season.
He said: “We’re very pleased with the progress we have made in the last three years.
“We won the cup two years ago and we firmly believe we have the potential to win more.
“Any team can win a cup and that has been shown by six different winners of the League Cup in the last six years, but we are still trying to improve.
“The numbers coming to Pittodrie and the travelling support show the following is there for us, but it is not blind loyalty and we want to have a good team on the pitch which gives supporters what they want to see.
“We always try to win and play the right way and I believe we have a team of value on the pitch.
“It is important as a club we show ambition as well and we want that to be demonstrated on and off the pitch.
“As long as supporters know the club is doing everything it can to be successful they will follow us.”
