Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has seen enough to know his side cannot afford to underestimate their part-time opponents Fola Esch this week.
The Luxembourgish club has never won a game in European football in 10 attempts, but having watched tapes of three games played by Jeff Strasser’s side and sent a scout to watch Esch beat Luxembourg champions F91 Dudelange 6-2 on Saturday, the Dons manager knows the potential pitfalls ahead.
He said: “Fola Esch are used to winning in their own league and we’ve see some good performances from them.
“I have watched three games now and we’ve had people out looking at the two matches they’ve played since the draw was made.
“So we know their personnel pretty well now and are familiar with them. They have some good technical players.
“Over the next few days we’ll fine-tune that and get to know them even better.”
The away draw at Croatia Zagreb last year is the one result in particular which stood out.
Zagreb were guilty of underestimating their opponents and McInnes believes it is vital his players do not make the same mistake.
He said: “Fola Esch are used to dominating teams and I keep coming back to the Dinamo Zagreb game.
“That was a Champions League qualifier, Fola Esch were down to 10 men for the last half hour but still got a draw.
“That was a significant result, the Dinamo team have guys who played for Croatia in the Euros this summer.
“They are no mugs, they travelled to face a high level team and were good enough and organised enough to get a result.
“So we have to make sure we don’t give them any encouragement.”
