League leaders Cove sticking with game-at-a-time philosophy ahead of Stirling trip

As the race for glory enters the home straight, the mantra at Cove Rangers remains unchanged.

Tonight the League 2 leaders tackle Stirling Albion at Forthbank at the start of the final quarter of the campaign.

The Balmoral Stadium outfit hold a 10-point lead at the top of the table and are looking to increase that lead over Edinburgh City with victory against the Binos.

Cove manager Paul Hartley isn’t looking beyond the encounter with Stirling as they look to edge closer to the title.

The Granite City gaffer said: “We’ve got nine games left and all we can do is keep taking it a game at a time and trying to get as many points as we can.

“It’s a cliché, but that’s just what we have to keep trying to do.

“We saw on Saturday (3-2 win over Brechin) that if you’re not at it for the whole game then you can lose goals and it can be tricky.”

Striker Rory McAllister is a major doubt for tonight’s game due to a thigh injury.

The January signing from Peterhead initially sustained the problem 10 days ago in the win over Stenhousemuir at Ochilview. McAllister was keen to play against Brechin at the weekend but had to be subbed before half-time.

Once he came off Broque Watson moved into a central area alongside Mitch Megginson and impressed.

Hartley added: “Rory struggled with his thigh last week and probably shouldn’t have played on Saturday, but he wanted to give it a go and he’ll be a major doubt for the next game or two.

“We’ve played Broque there (through the middle) before so it’s not something that’s new to him. He can play there and we’ll see how we are for this game.”

Hartley was disappointed after Saturday’s success against Brechin. He said: “I just felt we were sloppy and loose in possession and I didn’t feel we did the basic things well enough.”
