Elgin City defender Mark Nicolson is prepared to tough it out to earn three points at home to Clyde today.
The Bully Wee have slipped eight points adrift of the play-off positions following a run of eight league matches without a victory.
Barry Ferguson’s men have the upper hand in the fixture however, having won six of the last eight meetings between the sides.
Nicolson expects Clyde to show no shortage of dig in their efforts to revive their top-four hopes at Borough Briggs, and said: “We have always found it quite tough against Clyde, they are a good side and a big, physical team.
“It seems they are on a difficult run at the moment, while we are on a decent run, but it can change out of nowhere.
“They have dropped out of the play-off positions and that will be their aim this season, so they will be up for it.
“I’m expecting a difficult game but our home form has been really good.
“The likes of Shane Sutherland and Brian Cameron are playing really well and scoring a lot of goals and I’m sure they’ll cause Clyde problems.
“We know they have good players, I know David Gormley from his time with Elgin and he’s scoring a lot of goals.
“We like to get the ball down and pass it, but it doesn’t always work like that. I would certainly take a scrappy 1-0 win against them.”
Elgin are on course for the play-offs and are trying to consolidate third place with a victory.
Jim Weir’s men are 15 points behind league leaders Forfar Athletic but Nicolson’s target remains promotion to League 1 for the first time.
The 28-year-old added: “It would be a great achievement to reach the play-offs a second year running, and it would be something for the supporters to shout about.
“We’ve been in the play-offs a couple of times before but we feel we’ve let ourselves down.
“The aim is to go one better this season and go up. Winning the league is not totally out of the reach, but it’s Forfar’s to throw away. The play-offs is the main aim and we’ll concentrate on that.”
Nicolson returned to the team for last week’s 1-1 draw against Forfar after recovering from a calf injury suffered in last month’s 2-1 loss against Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup.
The former Ross County player hopes the problem is behind him, and he added: “I was lucky to get back into the team as the team did well against Edinburgh City. There’s good competition for places here and hopefully we can keep the momentum.”
