Elgin City attacker Craig Gunn insists no one is downing tools at Borough Briggs after three games without a win.
City have scored just once in their last four matches and Annan leapfrogged the Black and Whites into third place in League 2 courtesy of their win against Jim Weir’s side on Saturday.
Elgin have a nine-point lead over fifth-placed Stirling Albion in the play-off race and can take a huge step towards securing their place by winning their game in hand at Cowdenbeath tonight.
However, forward Gunn knows the Black and Whites have to improve on their woeful weekend showing against a rejuvenated Blue Brazil, who recorded an impressive 3-1 win at Berwick in new manager Gary Locke’s first game in charge.
Gunn said: “We didn’t get off to the best of starts at Annan by giving away an early penalty and we never recovered from going a goal behind. We were poor and in the end we were lucky to come away with just a 1-0 defeat.
“It wasn’t like us and we have to bounce back from a performance like that especially against Cowdenbeath who have had a lift from a new manager coming in.
“They had a great result on Saturday and will be looking to kick on, so we know we are going to have to produce a performance if we are to get the result we need.
“We want to be going into the end of the season with momentum and it is important we pick up as many wins as possible. We’re in a good position as far as the play-offs are concerned but we can’t coast along and try to lift ourselves again.
“There’s a long way to go and we have to be ready to fight for every point.”
