Cove Rangers maintained their unbeaten start to life in League 2 with a 2-0 win over Elgin City.
Mitch Megginson gave the Aberdeen side the lead inside three minutes and substitute Chris Antoniazzi sealed the points in the closing stages.
Paul Hartley’s side have now taken 19 points from a possible 21 and hold a three-point lead on Edinburgh City at the top of the table.
Elgin were without Rabin Omar, who was sent off against Stirling Albion last week, but on-loan forward Daniel MacKay returned to the bench after a month out with an ankle injury.
Cove announced prior to the game that midfielder Fraser Fyvie, who signed a short-term contract with the club last month, had extended his stay to the end of the season.
The former Aberdeen, Hibernian and Wigan Athletic midfielder had netted three times in four games prior to this game but it was Megginson, such a reliable source of goals for Cove, who opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game.
As Stuart McKenzie clung on to a close-range strike from Brian Cameron, Cove broke immediately and Megginson was sprung clear by Declan Glass, before slotting the ball under Thomas McHale.
The visitors were comfortable, with Fyvie instrumental in their build-up play. One first-time cross from the right was inches away from being turned in by Matty Smith, with Glass also screwing a shot wide of McHale’s far post.
Elgin had the ball in the net courtesy of a clever Kane Hester finish but the goal was ruled out, with the striker straying offside.
Shane Sutherland, once a transfer target of Cove, came close to an equaliser seven minutes into the second half after a fabulous through ball by Brian Cameron. However, his shot rolled agonisingly wide of the far post.
Cove still had more gears to find and their advantage could have been extended twice in two minutes, with Jamie Masson losing the ball under his feet after Glass had tormented Euan Spark before the on-loan Dundee United man sent a rasping drive over the top.
Smart play involving Harry Milne, Megginson and Masson sent the latter clear but his shot flashed across the face of goal, while at the other end Sutherland had a goal-bound effort blocked by Scott Ross.
Elgin’s final chance came when Rory MacEwan’s cross was met by Stephen Bronsky at the back post, but the defender was unable to turn home. Cove promptly went down the other end and Antoniazzi capped off a solid afternoon’s work with a late second.
