Price wary of Brechin revival ahead of Glebe Park trip

Elgin City manager Gavin Price is not reading into bottom-placed Brechin City’s position ahead of today’s League 2 encounter.

Brechin are five points adrift at the foot of the table, with 15 games remaining to avoid a relegation play-off at the end of the season.

The Black and Whites were defeated 2-1 on their last visit to Glebe Park in September, with Brechin manager Mark Wilson this week adding experienced midfield pair Rhys McCabe and Martin Scott.

Price, who rejected the chance to take the Brechin job earlier in the season, expects the Angus outfit will be determined to spark a revival.

Price said: “Brechin have strengthened this week. They are going to be fighting for their lives to try and get points on board.

“It’s probably a game they are earmarking they can win, having won the last one they played at home against us.

“We have to be on our guard, but I’m very confident we can win the game if we play the way we have in the last two away games.”

We just need to keep on trying to win games.”

Price goes into today’s game with encouragement following last weekend’s 2-1 win over Stirling Albion, which marked back-to-back away victories for the Moray outfit.

Price, who is without defenders Euan Spark and Andy McDonald, added: “It’s the first time in the league we have won a game by only one goal all season.

“I think that in a sense is probably a psychological victory for us. We are going to have to win more of these sorts of games.

“It was a tight game on Saturday and we have not won enough of them.

“I think it’s important – and I see this weekend being pretty similar.”

Last week’s victory moved Elgin into the promotion play-off places, however defender Matthew Cooper knows his side must maintain their consistency, with Annan Athletic only a point behind them.

Former Caley Thistle player Cooper said: “It was good to get into the top four, but we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.

“There’s a lot of teams around us with the same aim, so we have to try and string together a good run and find some consistency.

“Cowdenbeath have done well to create a wee gap in third place, but if they have a bad spell they could get dragged right into the mix. We have to just focus on ourselves and keep pushing.”

Cooper is hopeful of making it three straight away victories this afternoon, with the 25-year-old adding: “Overall we have performed quite well away from home this season, so it’s something we have to play on.

“If we can keep picking up results away from home, and improve our home form, we will be right up there.

“We know we are in for a difficult game. Brechin have proved in the previous games against us how tough they are to play against.”
