Smart Osadolor hopes to force his way into Elgin City boss Gavin Price’s plans after his weekend match-winner.
Osadolor came off the bench to seal all three points for Elgin against Brechin City, notching his first goal since signing for the club.
The form of Kane Hester and Shane Sutherland has meant Osadolor has had to wait for his opportunity in an Elgin shirt.
However, with his side trailing against League 2’s bottom side, Osadolor followed up Shane Sutherland’s leveller with a goal of his own to complete the turnaround.
He said: “Of course, any player wants to be playing week in, week out, and playing from the start.
“We’ve got a tough game next week against Cove. If I get the nod, great, if not then I’ll play the role that I’ve been given.
“You see where the club is at and you want to do everything you can to contribute. But the manager has brought me here for a reason and it’s not just for the next few games.
“There’s an understanding that whenever I’m called upon, to do the best I can.”
The 28-year-old has plenty of experience in the Scottish lower leagues. He has turned out for Annan Athletic, Stranraer, Clyde, Albion Rovers and Queen’s Park since 2015, after starting out in Partick Thistle’s youth system.
Price offered him an 18-month contract last month and he feels he has fitted in seamlessly at Borough Briggs.
Osadolor added: “Coming in at this stage of the season, you just need to play the role you’ve been given to help out the boys as much as you can. When your chance comes, you have to do the best you can.”
It was his first goal in four substitute outings for Elgin, with the striker paying tribute to Matthew Cooper for his assist at Glebe Park.
He said: “It was on the money – what an absolute legend. It was a pearler of a cross. It was harder for me to miss from a cross like that.
“The gaffer said to me to ‘just go enjoy the game. Play with a smile on your face as that’s when you do the most damage’.”
Osadolor had made four starts in 15 appearances for Albion Rovers, prior to his switch, netting on three occasions. One of those goals came in a 3-1 defeat to Elgin and another in a 4-4 draw with Cove Rangers, who the Borough Briggs outfit face at home this weekend.
