Russell Dingwall has signed a contract extension to remain with Elgin City for the 2020-21 season.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined City from Ross County last year.

Dingwall, who has previously had spells on loan at Stenhousemuir and Forfar, made 38 appearances for the Black and Whites last term.

He said: “Obviously I’m really happy to finally get it sorted out.

“It has been a tough time for the club so it was understandable that things were going to take time, but hopefully we can get back training soon and start from there for what will hopefully be a successful season.”

Dingwall is the second player over the past week to sign an Elgin extension after former Stranraer and St Mirren winger Conor O’Keefe also agreed to prolong his stay.

O’Keefe scored one of the fastest hat-tricks in the club’s history in a pre-season match against Aberdeen.

He scored three goals in three-and-a-half minutes in an 8-1 win against the Aberdeen development team in a match to celebrate Elgin’s 125th anniversary.

Manager Gavin Price said: “We are delighted to get Conor and Russell signed for next season.

“Keeping continuity at this level is so important.

“We have the majority of last season’s squad signed. They know how we do things and how we want to play so hopefully this will allow us to build on last season.”
