Charlie Charlesworth hopes Elgin City’s management team can keep the feel-good factor intact at Borough Briggs.

Manager Gavin Price and his entire coaching staff – comprising of Charlesworth, Jim Weir, Stevie Dunn and Gordon Nicolson – last week signed new deals to keep them at the club until 2025.

Charlesworth, who is first team coach, joined up as part of the coaching team at the start of this season.

Elgin are fifth in League Two ahead of their trip to Bonnyrigg Rose this weekend.

They could return into the play-off spots with a victory, depending on the outcome of Stenhousemuir’s match against East Fife.

Charlesworth, who previously headed up City’s youth setup, believes everyone at the club is aligned in their pursuit of success this term.

He said: “It has been very enjoyable, and quite demanding.

“The manager is really happy with the team he’s got around him now. He got Jim Weir back in towards the end of last season and now has his influence on us this year.

“I hope I have been a help to them, being local with a degree of experience.

“It seems to be working. It’s not for me to say, as I’m just a part of that group.

“I have been around long enough to know when the feel-good factor is there within the club.

“Right here, right now I would say that’s the case.

“It’s a solid management team, and a solid team on the park. Most importantly the supporters are behind us.

“It’s the same from Graham Tatters down, through the committee and all the supporting staff.

“The good times and good feelings come from results, so hopefully we can keep providing that.

“The players have the thirst for the training, and the hunger to do well for themselves. As long as we can satisfy that side of it, I’m sure the players will do their job each week.”

Important period approaching for Black and Whites

Charlesworth believes the upcoming period of matches will have a crucial bearing on the outcome of Elgin’s campaign.

He added: “We are still in a couple of cups, and we are pushing for the play-offs as a minimum this season.

Elgin City manager Gavin Price.

“The critical bit is between now and Christmas. We want to get ourselves back into the play-offs, and then reset.

“There will be quite a tough training period over Christmas which the manager has set out already.

“We will then go again into the New Year, and hopefully have something that comes out of this at the end of the season.

“We will take one thing at a time and hopefully keep the form.”

City aiming to get back on track at Bonnyrigg

Elgin are aiming to bounce back from two successive league defeats this weekend, having gone unbeaten in their previous five matches.

Charlesworth remains encouraged with Elgin’s displays, insisting the Black and Whites are working on keeping up the supply to 20-goal attacker Kane Hester.

Kane Hester, right, and Russell Dingwall.

The former Lossiemouth and Deveronvale boss added: “Coming back this season, I haven’t really seen any games where we have not been competitive.

“I have not seen a team we have been outplayed by. We have just maybe let ourselves down with individual or defensive errors.

“Going the other way, we are a match for every team. Kane Hester can take the plaudits for the amount of goals he has got, and he is some finisher.

“There is also a lot of work going on behind him to support him, from the goalkeepers, through the defence and midfield up to himself.

“The manager has put the onus on the tempo of the ball, moving it across the park a little bit quicker.

“We have done some exercises towards that and the plan is to get back on track against Bonnyrigg.”
