Aberdeen have completed the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward on a deal.
The 22-year-old Welshman trained with the Dons today and has moved to Pittodrie for the 2015/16 where he will compete with Scott Brown and Jamie Langfield for the number one jersey.
After completing the signing, Dons boss Derek McInnes said: “I am delighted to get Danny on board. He is a young goalkeeper we have been aware of for some time.
“We are thankful to Liverpool and Brendan (Rodgers) in particular for allowing this to happen.
“We have real competition for places in all areas of the team, and we certainly now have that in the goalkeeping position.
“We believe Danny is going to have a good career as he goes forward and we are looking forward to the opportunity of working with him as part of his development.
“He can also help us to be successful.”
Ward played a key role for Liverpool’s under-21 team last season and earlier this week put pen to paper on a new long term deal.
Shortly after signing his new five year contract at Anfield Ward spoke to the Liverpool FC website about his development: “I’m very happy now that it’s finally been sorted.
“To sign a new long-term deal is massive for me at this stage of my career so hopefully now it’s time to kick on.
“Over the last few years since I’ve been at Liverpool I feel like I’ve come on quite a lot.
“Obviously it’s a massive club and to sign a new deal means they want to keep me, which is massive for me. Hopefully I can crack on, keep going and carry on my development.”
The Welshman has represented his country at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels and has previously spent brief loan spells at Tamworth and Morecombe.
