Aberdeen have recruited legendary former-manager Sir Alex Ferguson in a bid to land the services of one of Manchester United’s bright young stars.
Reserve goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has still to make his debut for the Old Trafford side but Derek McInnes is understood to be keen on bringing the youngster in on loan.
Johnstone has spent time on loan at Oldham, Yeovil, Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Preston in the past and build up a reputation as a confident man between the sticks.
The 23-year-old is unlikely to get in ahead of David De Gea or Sergio Romero but Aberdeen could be the perfect fit.
McInnes is hoping Ferguson can help persuade Johnstone to make the move to the north-east, with the Europa League signing deadline looming later this month.
McInnes was keen to land Ryan Allsop from Bournemouth but that collapsed when the Premiership side offered him a new deal.
Danny Ward proved a big success last season when he arrived from Liverpool for the first half of the season. But any hopes of him returning look remote as he looks likely to join English Championship side Huddersfield Town on loan.
