Wick Academy made it six games unbeaten at Christie Park with a 5-1 win against managerless Huntly.
Academy assistant-manager Richard Hughes said: “We were 4-0 up in the first half but Huntly did well and did what Charlie Duncan’s teams do, got in our faces and tried to stop us and they had a few chances forcing Sean McCarthy into making fine saves.
“We had our shooting boots on in the first half and that was the difference, because they pushed us after we went 3-0 up.”
Three goals in a 12-minute spell gave the visitors a comfortable lead.
Andrew Mackay got forward on the left and after his cross was not cleared it fell kindly for Davie Allan to bundle in from close range.
Wick pushed forward and in the 17th minute Michael Steven’s delivery to Allan was not dealt with and Steven Anderson finished the move off at the back post.
Three minutes later Richard Macadie added another.
Slack defending allowed Wick in for a fourth before the break, Academy’s leading scorer Anderson drilling in his 14th of the campaign with a powerful drive.
With 20 minutes left Michael Steven tapped in number five before Huntly grabbed a consolation with seven minutes left through Glenn Murison.
Huntly have now gone six games without a win, and coach Eddie Copeland said: “There were bad decisions and goals which could have been avoided.
“Although Wick were the better side in the first half we had a few chances ourselves, but we made a lot of our own problems.”
