Fort William’s 1-1 home draw against title contenders Formartine United may have surprised many – but not the man whose goal earned the Lochaber club an unlikely point.
Midfielder Sean Ellis is only back home from Australia for Christmas, but the former Clachnacuddin player hopes to add to his two goals in two games – he previously scored Fort’s second after Scott Davidson’s opener, in the 7-2 defeat to Keith on December 10 – over the next fortnight before the painter and decorator makes his return to Melbourne.
Ellis, 26, who plays for Heidelberg United in the second-tier National Premier League, said: “I will be going back for my sixth year in Australia when I fly back on Jan-uary 9.
“I love to come home at this time of year to help the team out and catch up with everything that has been happening over here.
“We played well on Saturday and the atmosphere in the dressing room was absolutely brilliant.
“It was like we had taken all three points and won the game.
“We could have as we had two stonewall penalty claims turned down.
“They also had their chances so we were happy enough to take the draw.
“Hopefully I can get another two games for Fort – against Clach this weekend and Strathspey Thistle just before New Year before I go back to Australia.
“It would be great to help the lads to six points and take us off the bottom of the table.”
