Formartine United boss hails captain’s leading role

Formartine United manager Kris Hunter hailed his captain Paul Lawson’s man-of-the-match performance against Cove Rangers.
Lawson has missed the last three months due to a knee injury but the midfielder made a scoring return in a central defensive role for his club.
Hunter said: “Paul is a massive influence on the team and he’s also a great player, one of the best in the league.
“We had to try to fit him in somewhere today.
“I don’t think he’s match-fit to play his favourite holding position in midfield but I wanted him to go in at the back and do a job for us and he was excellent.”
Hunter was happy to take a point against the champions.
He said: “We had probably the more clear-cut chances and right at the end the ball took a bobble just as Neil Gauld shot at goal and he fired over the target.
“That was a great chance and we also had another couple of opportunities when we got in behind them and cut the ball back and it just didn’t fall for us but neither side deserved to lose.”
