Formartine United’s Cammy Keith is a wanted man, with at least five clubs interested in signing him.
Highland League leaders Buckie Thistle as well as Keith, Inverurie Locos, Turriff United and Huntly are all keen on the back-to-back Highland League player of the year, who has been transfer-listed at his own request.
The 29-year-old has not featured at Formartine for almost nine months and, after taking a break from the game, he believes it is time for a fresh start with a new club.
He said: “I took a sabbatical from the start of this season and have not made myself available for selection at all during that time. My last appearance in a United shirt was at Strathspey Thistle last April. I had a very enjoyable three seasons at Formartine and there are a lot of good people at the club.
“I must give a special mention to all the people behind the scenes at the club and the supporters who have always been great to me. I am going to leave with very fond memories of the club and I was delighted to play a part in their history by being in the team that won their first trophy in senior football, the Aberdeenshire Cup in the 2013-14 season.
“That was the only remaining trophy I had left to win at this level so that completed the set for me. My only regret was not being able to win the league with Formartine but I have no doubts that they will eventually do so.”
Keith hopes his future can be resolved quickly and he could find himself playing for a new club as soon as this weekend.
Keith, who after six seasons at Keith was only 18 goals behind the Maroons’ all-time leading scorer Derek Nicol, added: “Things may become a little clearer later over the next couple of days. I have been training on my own and keeping myself fit. The only thing I lack is match fitness, but that will come back soon enough.”
“I’ve taken a much-needed break from the game to concentrate on other priorities, such as getting married and going on honeymoon for almost a month, but I’m now refreshed, hungry and eager to get back.”
