Buckie Thistle forward John McLeod ended a barren run of form by his standards with his side’s opening goal in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Turriff United, his first strike in three matches.
The Thurso-born former Fort William and Brora Rangers attacker comfortably tops the Highland scoring charts with 37 goals this season but feels his opener at the Haughs could be one of his most important for the Jags.
McLeod said: “I was disappointed not to have scored in the last two games, so to see the ball hit the back of the net again was pleasing. I could have had a couple more but my legs just wouldn’t do what I wanted them to do, while United goalkeeper Kevin Main made a great stop from the other one.
“We showed the character we have in the team to get back on level terms after going behind in the second half and if we had had a couple more minutes we could have gone on to get all three points as we finished the game strongly.”
The 28-year-old felt that it was two points dropped for his side.
He added: “It would have been nice to have gained points on the other title challengers on the day but we didn’t lose any ground either, so we still have all to play for during the rest of the season including difficult trips to Wick Academy, Formartine United and Brora Rangers.
“We have to regroup and go again as we are still top of the table but know that we need to come to difficult places like Turriff and win to keep our title challenge going.”
