Formartine United assistant-manager Mike Cormack has resigned due to pressure of work with his family joinery business.
The 51-year-old former Cove Rangers, Formartine and Lossiemouth player, who has also been assistant-manager at Inverurie Locos, Lossiemouth, Turriff United, Fraserburgh and Huntly, left after Saturday’s 4-0 Scottish Cup fourth round defeat at Premiership club Partick Thistle.
Cormack said: “I am leaving on really good terms but with my business as busy as it is I was finding it very difficult to find a balance between my work and my football.
“I stopped for a while a few months ago and came back, but I was always missing a training session here and there so I thought Saturday’s big game at Partick would be my ideal swansong.
“Kris Hunter took me to work with him at Turriff United, we then moved to Fraserburgh before arriving at Formartine United. I have been fortunate to have been involved in management at some really good Highland League clubs, winning the league with Huntly on a shoestring budget was one of the highlights of my career, but lifting the North Cup and Highland League Cup with Fraser Kellas at Lossiemouth in the mid-1990s was equally pleasing.
“Saturday was a great way for me to bow out. It was a great day for everyone at Formartine and they all did themselves proud. I was just glad to be part of it, I wish the club every success and I’m sure they will do really well under the managership of Kris Hunter.”
Cormack will not be taking a total break from the game, when he added: “I will still be turning up on occasion at a Highland League ground to take in a game, but I also want to see more of my son-in-law playing, Peterhead centre forward Rory Mc-Allister. I also want to spend more time with my two-year-old grandson, Noel.”
