Clachnacuddin midfielder James Beeston is happy to be a one-game wonder after playing in goal for the Lilywhites on Saturday.
Beeston had to overcome early nerves after being forced to deputise between the sticks when goalkeeper Aidan MacDonald took ill ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Formartine United.
MacDonald was taken to hospital on the way to Pitmedden after feeling unwell due to dehydration, with the teenager having since been given the all-clear.
With regular number one John Campbell unavailable for the Breedon Highland League Cup quarter-final tie, former Ross County youngster Beeston answered manager Iain Polworth’s appeal for a goalkeeper ahead of kick-off.
Although he was praised for his efforts, Beeston, 20, was unable to prevent the Lilywhites losing at North Lodge Park, with Formartine setting up a last-four tie away to Turriff United on March 11.
Beeston said: “When I was told I’d be playing in goals I was a bit nervous but I calmed down when I got my first touch of the ball. Although I’m an outfield player I was on a team-sheet for Clach as a goalkeeper on one previous occasion when I was named as a substitute for a tournament in Shetland.
“I put my hand up to play this time in goals. I felt it was a case of doing the right thing, taking the number one shirt for the team as no one else would put their name forward. I’d play anywhere for the team.
“I don’t think my efforts will be rewarded with another appearance in goal. There will probably be other first choices for our manager ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Inverurie Locos. I might just be a one-game wonder but it was good while it lasted.”
