Turriff United ended the season with a win but were made to struggle all the way by a resilient Rothes outfit.
United manager Ross Jack said: “Both teams were short of players and conditions were pretty poor, the wind was horrendous across the park and that spoiled the game a little, although both teams went at it.
“We were fortunate to get the victory.
“We weren’t best but it was a good display from Rothes.
“It was good to finish the season with a win, considering everything that has gone this season sixth place isn’t ideal, but it’s also not bad.”
Rothes manager Steven MacDonald said: “There was nothing at all between us and Turriff and I was very pleased with the way we played. We had to throw the team together a bit given the number of players unavailable.
“It was encouraging for the start of the new season, trialist forward Gavin Hay scored and didn’t look out of place at all.”
Turriff took a ninth minute lead through Nick Wozniak but within 60 seconds the Speysiders were back on level terms through Hay before Allen MacKenzie scored the winner for United in the 56th minute.
