Keith ended their season on a winning note with a fine win at Kynoch Park.
A dull first half produced no goals, but in an enthralling second period the Maroons came out on top with a late goal from Scott Begg.
Delighted Keith manager Allan Hale said: “I was really pleased to end the season with a win, it was a good performance. The first half was a non-event, but I was delighted with the second-half display. David Dey’s penalty save was decisive in the game, but they didn’t create a lot of chances, and there were a lot of positives for us.”
The game sparked into life when James Pickles hit the post with a header for Wick. However in the 56th minute Michael Ewen latched on to a James Brownie pass to score his 12th goal of the season and put the home side in front. Ewen could have netted again but he this time he was foiled by visiting goalkeeper Danny McCarthy.
The second half was much more end-to-end and Wick had the chance to level from the spot in the 74th minute when Bradley Manson upended teenager Korbyn Cameron, but home goalkeeper Dey pulled off a fine save to keep out Sam Mackay’s penalty.
It was all square four minutes later when Mackay hit the bar with a header and Steven Anderson reacted first to follow and rifle home the loose ball from 15 yards.
Keith substitute Kris Duncan shot inches past from 15 yards as the Maroons sought to regain the lead, with Cammy Keith also being foiled by the visiting goalkeeper at the near post.
With time running out the winner came for the home side when Scott Begg rammed home in a crowded penalty area, his first goal since signing from Deveronvale last month.
Disappointed Wick manager Gordon Connelly said: “There was nothing between the teams and a draw really would have been a fair result.
“We gave a few of the young players a chance, and they did well but we hit the bar, missed a penalty and lost a sloppy goal.”
