Caley Thistle’s hopes of signing Buckie Thistle captain and midfielder Kevin Fraser are over after the clubs could not agree a deal.
Inverness manager John Robertson invited the former Caley Thistle youth-team player for a week’s trial, but Buckie were adamant the Highland League player of the year, who led his club to the championship last season, would not be sold on the cheap.
There were hopes a compromise deal could be arranged, but those hopes have been dashed and Inverness-born Fraser has now signed a new, five-year contract with Buckie.
Buckie manager Graeme Stewart said: “I’m surprised, but delighted Kevin is staying with us. He’s the best player in the Highland League and I am really glad he has agreed to this new contract and I look forward to him playing a leading role for the club this season.”
