Brora Rangers striker Paul Brindle will have no hesitation offering his services to take a penalty again despite seeing his spot kick saved in the Highland League win against Keith at Dudgeon Park on Saturday.
Fortunately for the former Clach forward, his miss from the spot was ultimately irrelevant as the hosts earned a deserved victory.
Keith keeper David Dey saved Brindle’s effort before departing the action due to a shoulder injury.
As the visitors did not have a substitute keeper on the bench, full-back Stewart Hutcheon went in goal for the rest of the game.
Brindle said: “There are a few boys in our team who take penalties and it just depends on the game as to who takes them.
“I was confident when I stepped up but the keeper managed to get across to the ball. I’ll happily step up again, although there will be a few boys queueing up to take the next one.”
Brora face a tough game against Cove on Wednesday.
As the Cattachs had not played since beating Turriff on February 24, Brindle was happy to get some much-needed match practice before facing the league leaders.
He said: “It can be difficult when you’ve not played for a while. You’re still training but matches are different. It was good to get a game and everyone was looking forward to playing.
“You don’t want to go in cold to a game against Cove.”
Brindle and Martin Maclean went close early on for Brora before Scott Graham fired the home side into the lead.
After Steven Mackay was fouled in the Keith penalty area, Brindle had the opportunity to score a penalty, but was denied by Dey.
Keith soon had to replace the injured Dey with defender Hutcheon, who went on to produce a good performance between the sticks.
Brora scored again early in the second half though a predatory finish at the back post by Mackay.
The Cattachs then rounded off their victory with a good strike from 18 yards out by Zander Sutherland.
These two teams are scheduled to meet again on Saturday at Kynoch Park in the Breedon Highland League Cup.
