Brora Rangers have bolstered their Highland League title challenge by signing striker Scott Davidson from Rothes on a two-and-a- half year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 6ft 4in tall forward, who scored 30 goals for Fort William the season before last, has been added to the Cattachs squad for Saturday’s trip to face Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park and is looking forward to making his debut for his new club this weekend.

The 25 year-old said: “I’m delighted to be joining Brora Rangers and it’s something which really excites me as they are challenging for the title this season.

“They are six points behind Cove but still have to play the champions twice, so these really are exciting times.

“Brora have been in for me a few times over the last couple of years but I didn’t feel that the time was right until now, but there is something different about it now.

“Player-manager Steven Mackay has got a settled team and I’ve heard nothing but good words about him and the club.”

Brora boss Mackay is equally pleased to add a proven goalscorer as he and his players strive to close that gap on leaders Cove Rangers at the top of the table.

Mackay said: “We are delighted to have big Scott join us. “He will bring us goals but equally importantly he will also bring a physical presence and a stature up front.

“He also gives us different options in the way that we can potentially set-up for a game.

“It is an area where we have been looking to strengthen ever since the start of the season. We were never just going to rush in and sign a player just for the sake of it. We didn’t do that when we signed Neil McDonald, Dale Gillespie and young Niall Docherty, and now Scotty also comes into the mix.

“We are in the process of putting together a squad that we are 100% comfortable with, and bringing in players who are not only good players, but they tick a lot of other boxes for us, in terms of mentality, attitude and all the key things we look for.”
