Wick Academy returned to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph over Formartine United at North Lodge Park.
The result was Wick’s first victory since their 1-0 win away to Inverurie Locos on November 2, and manager Tom McKenna felt the Scorries executed their game plan perfectly.
McKenna said: “It has been a long time coming for us after a bit of a slump period for us, but the performances have been decent.
“To go to Formartine and get three points, you know you have to put in a good performance.
“We had to be resilient for the majority of the game.
“Formartine had the greater possession, but the lads were disciplined and organised and we just wanted to get them on the counter attack.
“Our game plan worked. Formartine has been a good hunting ground for us.”
Wick took the lead shortly after the half-hour mark when the ball broke for Ryan Campbell to slot home from six yards out.
The Scorries were unable to hold out until half-time, however, with striker Conor Gethins heading United level on the stroke of the interval.
Paul Lawson’s men could not get the desired lift after the break, however, with Gordon McNab showing neat control before firing the winner past Kevin Main on 53 minutes.
The result moves Wick to within a point of Formartine.
