Andrew Greig believes he’ll get better in the weeks ahead after making his first start for Formartine United in more than two months.
The winger has been troubled by a groin injury in recent times, but returned to the Pitmedden side’s starting 11 for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Buckie Thistle at North Lodge Park.
Greig managed just over an hour on his first start for Paul Lawson’s side since October 30.
The former Brora Rangers player said: “It’s was only my third start in four months because I’ve had injury problems.
“It was great to be back and to be part of a winning performance was great.
“I’m not fully sharp yet because I’ve been out for a while, but every time I play it helps and it’s good to be back.”
Greig was also pleased to see Formartine return to winning ways on Saturday after three straight defeats.
It looked like it would finish all square after Andrew MacAskill’s penalty cancelled out Scott Lisle’s opener, but Greig’s replacement off the bench Conor Gethins, netted a stoppage time winner.
Greig added: “It was a great result for us on Saturday and I felt we deserved it in the end.
“The boys really dug in during the closing stages to get the result.
“We showed character after Buckie had come back to 1-1 and had the momentum in the closing stages.
“Conor did great when he came on to finish for the winner and we’re all delighted for him as well.
“It was tough losing the penalty, but we came back from it well so that’s the main thing.”
Formartine have gone through a tough run of form in the last few months and sit 10th in Highland League table.
But Greig hopes their win against Buckie can be the catalyst for a winning run in the weeks ahead.
He said: “Hopefully this can be the start of some better form.
“We need to build on this and just focus on ourselves.”
