Caley Thistle are facing promotion anguish after the SPFL tabled a resolution to end the season with no play-offs taking place.
The SPFL board have recommended the cancellation of Championship, League 1 and League 2 campaigns, with league standings to be determined on a points per game basis.
Although promotion would be granted to all three league winners, the cancellation of all play-offs would see Inverness, currently second in the Championship, miss out.
The approval of plans would allow the distribution of league prize money however, with the SPFL board also stating its commitment to consulting with clubs over possible league reconstruction.
The resolution requires the backing of 75% of clubs in each division, with a deadline of 5pm tomorrow for clubs to vote.
All 42 SPFL clubs were involved in divisional meetings via conference call yesterday, with discussions continuing on how to conclude the season following the suspension of football due to coronavirus.
No decision will yet be taken on the Premiership however, meaning Ross County must wait to discover whether their campaign will be played to a finish.
League 2 club Elgin City also stand to miss out on promotion, having been third in the table and on course for a play-off page. Chairman Graham Tatters declined to comment, insisting he was keen to discuss the issue with the
club’s board.
Brora Rangers, who have already been crowned Highland League champions, will also miss out on the opportunity of promotion to League 2 through the usual route of the pyramid play-off.
Brora chairman William Powrie accepts the Cattachs have no influence in their fate, but remains hopeful league reconfiguration can provide a pathway for promotion.
Powrie said: “It’s a decision that’s out of our hands, that we have got no say in.
“Each club will be looking at it in terms of their own particular position, and there will be some in there certainly not wanting to be relegated.
“There will be others in play-off positions who won’t want to lose that, such as Elgin City and Inverness locally.
“There are a lot of clubs that would benefit similarly if some restructuring did go ahead, so hopefully we could jump on the coat-tails of them.”
