Strathspey Thistle manager Gordon Nicolson says the board’s willingness to back his ambition for the Jags was behind his decision to sign a new two-year contract.
Nicolson and assistant Tommy Wilson have both agreed extensions at Seafield Park, having led Thistle to 13th place before the Highland League season was ended due to coronavirus.
Strathspey had set out to surpass their record points tally of 33 which they set in the previous campaign, which they fell 14 points short of but having played 12 games less.
Nicolson is hopeful the Grantown club can continue its progression, and he said: “The directors and committee at the club support myself and Tommy well.
“We have talked about trying to improve, and Tommy and I are ambitious to do that.
“The fact they were still willing to support us, and want to get the club higher up the table as we do, it made the decision a bit easier.
“We feel that with the way this season has ended, we have not quite managed to reach one of the goals we set ourselves.
“That becomes another target for us for next year.”
Nicolson’s preparations for next term are on hold given the uncertainty over when football will return.
He added: “We would like to start planning for next year, but we’ve just got to deal with the times we are in.
“Tommy and myself have got a clear idea of how we want to play – we try and play an attacking style of football.
“We know the sort of players we want to bring in to play that way.
“We are being competitive in all the games, which in years gone by is maybe something the club struggled with.
“That comes with the backing, and making sure that where possible the club is getting the type of players in that we need.
“It’s a combination of what the committee are doing behind the scenes, and what we are trying to do with the players.
“We’ve got a good group of players that are only going to improve, and some good experienced players that are good examples for those young players.”
