Formartine United player-manager Paul Lawson has praised the attitude of Conor Gethins after the striker signed a contract extension.
The Irishman has put pen to paper on a one-year extension with the Pitmedden outfit.
Gethins scored nine goals for the North Lodge Park club this season before it was cut short in March.
The 36-year-old Inverness-based striker spent chunks of the campaign on the bench, but Lawson says that didn’t have an impact on Gethins’ work-rate and commitment.
He said: “His attitude is always impressive. When you’re not playing it is difficult and I’ve spoken to Conor about it.
“With the commitment he makes in terms of travelling it could be easy for him to throw the toys out of the pram and say ‘I’m doing all this travelling and putting in this effort and not getting in the team’.
“But he hasn’t done that, he’s kept his head down and kept working hard – he knows what he can give to the team.
“He would like to be starting and I understand that. Conor was patient and when Garry Wood got injured Conor came in and showed what he could do.
“He’s proven over the years he’s a goalscorer at this level and at a higher level and he’s proven he can still do a job.”
Lawson believes Gethins can contribute plenty to the Formartine cause next season.
He added: “He scored a lot of goals this season and contributed to our pick-up in form really.
“He got back to full fitness and was enjoying his football again.
“He feels and we feel he can give us another year and contribute to what we’re trying to do.
“It’s good to keep his experience in the squad, we’ve got younger players in the squad so to have somebody with his experience is important.”
