Liam MacDonald says he’s grateful to Martin Skinner for giving him a chance at Huntly.
Skinner resigned as manager of the Black and Golds at weekend.
MacDonald arrived at Christie Park on loan from Peterhead at the start of the season before making the move permanent in November.
The 20-year-old established himself as a regular for the Strathbogie side and the former Inverness Caley Thistle youth player was pleased to cement a position having previously had loan spells in the Highland League with Fraserburgh and Nairn County.
MacDonald said: “I was really thankful to Martin for bringing me in and I really enjoyed working under him.
“I was gutted when we found out he was leaving, but that’s football and going forward we’ll have to try impress the next manager when he comes in and improve next season.
“We found out at the weekend and it was a shock for us, it’s a shame, but that’s football and nobody stays around forever.”
MacDonald admits this season was important for him to prove that he could perform regularly at Highland League level.
He added: “I think this season was quite a big season for me.
“I’ve never managed to consistently stay in a team whether that’s been because of injuries or form.
“It was a big season for me because Huntly signed me and I wanted to prove that I was worth taking in.
“I wanted to try to play every game and avoid injuries and by and large I’ve done that so it was an important season for me.
“It’s quite hard just now keeping yourself fit and keeping yourself motivated when you don’t know when we’ll be back.
“But right now it’s just about keeping ourselves ticking over so I’ve been doing three or four runs a week.”
