Wick Academy have moved to sign goalkeeper Graeme Williamson after Sean McCarthy opted to leave Harmsworth Park.
McCarthy has left the Scorries in search of a new challenge despite initially accepting the club’s offer of a new contract, before having a change of heart.
The 27-year-old leaves after clocking up 191 appearances in six years, having joined following his release by Ross County in 2014.
Wick manager Gary Manson has moved quickly to replace McCarthy however, by bringing in goalkeeper Williamson from North Caledonian League side Golspie Sutherland.
Williamson has also enjoyed success with in the Caithness County League with Wick Groats, who he helped to win the Highland Amateur Cup last year.
Williamson joins Andrew Hardwick in joining the Scorries, after the defender returned for a second spell with the club after leaving Strathspey Thistle.
Manson is pleased to bring in Williamson to compete with fellow goalkeeper Gordon Clark, who recently signed a new deal.
Manson said: “Graeme signing is great news for the club. When Sean made it known he was wanting to leave it was imperative we moved quickly and got another quality goalkeeper in.
“With Gordon Clark extending his contract a few weeks ago it’s great to have two goalkeepers signed up and ready to fight for the number one position.
“Graeme will fit seamlessly into the changing room and I’m really looking forward to see how he adapts to the higher level.”
