Huntly may have lost two on the bounce without scoring a goal, but manager Gregg Carrol believes his team is making progress.
The Christie Park men suffered a 2-0 defeat by league leaders Wick Academy on Saturday to leave them at the foot of the table, with five points from 13 matches.
However Carrol is certain it is only a matter of time before results start to turn in the favour of the Black and Golds.
And the Huntly manager hopes that begins this evening at Allan Park when his side takes on Cove Rangers.
He said: “I do feel things are heading in the right direction. The last three or four performances have been really good.
“I have nothing but praise for the players. They have stuck to their task and worked really hard to create chances.
“If you are creating chances then you will get there eventually.
“We were disappointed with the two goals we conceded against Wick.
“The first goal came from a mistake after our centre half slipped and the second when we were caught on the break.
“You just have to accept that can happen, but I can’t fault the effort from the players.”
Carrol’s main challenge has been giving his players the belief they can win matches after losing 10 of their opening 13 league games.
He added: “The most important thing is getting the confidence levels up and that is increasing with every game we play.
“It is about making progress each week and we feel we are.”
Cove Rangers go into the match on the back of a 3-2 defeat by Formartine United and manager John Sheran knows there will be no room for complacency against the Christie Park side.
He said: “Huntly are improving all the time so we know we will need to be at our best.
“They have had a big turnover of players this season but they are starting to find their feet and we are anticipating a tough game.
“We lost to Formartine at the weekend but I didn’t think it was a bad performance.
“We have now played Formartine, Inverurie Locos and Brora Rangers and competed in every match against the better sides in the league.
“There are things we can improve on, but we also have positives the players can take from the matches we have played so far this season.”
