Well it was the team that play in green and white who were the visitors to Christie Park on Saturday, no not Glasgow Celtic but it was Buckie Thistle!
Buckie Thistle are a club which has had its recent off field problems making local headlines recently, but the fans I’m sure will just want to concentrate more on what happens on the football pitch every week. They have also had to contend with a crippling injury crisis to their squad which hasn’t helped their cause as they have lost their previous five matches.
Huntly were due to play a midweek Aberdeenshire Shield tie at Christie Park on Wednesday night against Fraserbrugh FC but the match was called off due to the wet conditions so this game gave us the chance to bounce back from our 6-0 defeat at the hands of big money spending Formartine United.
Well we did bounce back with a fantastic all round team performance to secure a 1-0 win against Buckie with Calum Dunbar scoring what I heard was a screamer of a goal as I missed it due to being inside doing my kit man duties!
It was a scrappy affair in which Huntly had a few chances to kill off the game and not make it so nervy for us fans of the Black and Golds but we stuck it out and are delighted with the well deserved three points. This was Calum’s third goal for the club and was a fantastic volley from just outside the box.
It will be onto the Brora match at Christie Park next Saturday for Huntly in game which will be very tough but before that game I myself are off to Celtic Park on Friday to see Scotland take on the Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2016 Qualifier then I’m back down again on Tuesday night to see us take on the Auld Enemy England in a “friendly” match at Celtic Park. I must say I’m very looking forward to these two cracking games!
