Fraserburgh celebrate winning the title.

Fraserburgh claimed their first Breedon Highland League title for 20 years in style.

The Broch had to avoid defeat against Forres Mechanics at a packed Bellslea to pip Buckie Thistle to the championship.

The Jags won 3-1 at Clachnacuddin but Fraserburgh rose to the occasion with a 5-0 victory against Forres to seal the title.

Mark Cowie and his players were lavished with praise from the Broch support after an excellent season in which they have won 30 of their 34 games with only two draws and two defeats.

It was only the fourth time Fraserburgh had won the title following previous successes in 1932-33, 1937-38 and 2001-02.

The success was warmly received by proud Fraserburgh fans with supporters from other clubs also praising Cowie’s side for a superb season.

Peter Ritchie wrote: “Absolutely brilliant achievement and fantastic result to finish the league in style. I watched the link from Perth, Australia. Great to see a fantastic crowd.”

John McRobbie said: “Congratulations to the manager, players and staff at FFC. What a fantastic result and a great way to end the season. You’ve made us all very proud to be Brochers today.”

Dave Leslie felt Buckie Thistle, who finished only three points behind the Broch, also had plenty to be proud about.

Fraserburgh won 30 of their 34 games this season.

He wrote: “Well done to all at the Broch.  The Jags deserve a lot of credit taking it to the last, enjoy your night and all the best in the play-offs.”

John May wrote: “Brilliant – what a great way to finish it. Well deserved. What a season it’s been, a few very tight games but you stuck to it and have got the reward. You have done the whole town proud. Team and staff, give yourselves a big pat on the back.”
