WATCH: Fans pack Bellslea for Fraserburgh’s play-off showdown with Bonnyrigg Rose – our special Highland League Weekly feature

Breedon Highland League champions Fraserburgh ultimately fell short in their bid to step up to the SPFL – going down in a two-legged semi-final tie against Lowland League winners Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic.

Following a 3-1 defeat at New Dundas Park in the first meeting of the sides, the Broch,` backed by a large (and loud) Bellslea crowd. had it all to do in the return game.

But they were up for the fight.

However, having got themselves in front via Kieran Simpson in the second period, the Burry couldn’t get the second goal they needed to force extra-time and the full-time whistle signalled the end of their play-off bid.

Nevertheless, Mark Cowie, his staff and their team can be more than proud of their efforts this season, having claimed a first Highland League crown for 20 years – which they will now look to defend next term.

Our Highland League Weekly cameras were at Bellslea on Saturday on another dramatic day, capturing the emotions across the 90 minutes – in the dugout and among the fans – and you can watch the special feature we’ve created above.
