Keith FC: Maroons finally rewarded for weeks of hard work

Well, that felt good! Scrub that…. that felt fantastic! The boys have ended our losing streak in some style.

Make no mistake, on Saturday our youngsters were taking on a vastly experienced, strong, powerful Highland League side on their own patch. Mosset Park has been a fortress in recent years but we do have a good record there.

It was actually a fantastic match with end-to-end football and plenty chances created. I never thought id be saying this but every time we bombed forward, we looked like we would score!

We controlled the first half, which has happened before this season, but this time there was a bit more resilience evident in the second half.

Forres 1-3 Keith at half-time, Greg Smith with his first goals for the club. During the break it did seem as though the Maroons were in control. However we have said that before this season and previously it all went wrong in the second half.

This time it was a wee bit different. Every player in sky blue stuck to task, we scored a fourth, we battled well and defended as a unit.

As the scoreline suggests, we couldn’t help but make things difficult for ourselves but substitutions were made at the right times, for the right reasons and we held on for a great win.

Cue jubilant scenes from everyone that has stuck by the Maroons through difficult times. A fantastic performance from the players and great work from Gordon and Jim.

At last a reward for their efforts! There is a no doubt that this is just the start of great things to come and hopefully the players will go into the match next week full of confidence!

Finally, I have to comment on Greg Smith’s second goal. What a strike!!! Now I’m sure that a goal scored from all of 35yards, out on the touchline, will bring suggestions that he was lucky or he didn’t mean it! I don’t think it matters, it hit the back of the net and Keith are back to winning ways. Onwards and upwards as we start our climb back up the table!
