No games at all on Saturday in the Highland League – all nine matches called off due to frostbound pitches.
Keith’s festive derby tussle with Huntly at Kynoch Park was one of those games that hit the skids. As a result that’s three successive Saturdays that Gordon Winton and his Merry Men have been left idle.
Hey, it’s not all doom and gloom though as the Maroons carry a one game win sequence into 2015, and who would have thought it given the year they have just suffered – but – they had a 100% record for December!
Okay, they only played one game, and won it 4-3 at Forres to end an 11 game losing sequence, but onwards and upwards I say, well, there’s plenty of scope for going upwards!
It’s been tough trying to compete with the clubs that are throwing money about, but perseverance has been the name of the game, and several of the young lads are beginning to shape up with the likes of Craig Cormack and Ricky Henderson, two of the local contingent, showing signs of bedding in.
Next Saturday’s first footing match at Huntly will be a tasty tussle with both sides suffering at the wrong end of the table, but a local derby is a local derby no matter where the sides are in the league, and Saturday will be no different, with bragging rights up for grabs as well as three valuable points.
Keith’s recent lack of match practice may be a hindrance, but then again, they are likely to be champing at the bit to get into action so it probably won’t matter a jot.
