PREVIEW: Nairn County v Turriff United

Turriff United’s unbeaten Highland League run stands at a massive 17 games but Nairn County captain Mike Morrison plans to bring it to an end when the sides meet at Station Park today.

Turriff have not lost a league game since last August, when they were beaten by Brora Rangers and Fraserburgh.

But they face a Nairn side which has scored eight goals in its last two outings without conceding – a 5-0 home thrashing of Huntly on December 20 and an equally impressive 3-0 festive derby triumph against Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park on January 3.

Morrison said: “It should be an interesting encounter. We are disappointed we have had a couple of games off over the festive break due to the weather.

“We played really well against Huntly just before Christmas and then we matched that with another encouraging win at Forres just after the turn of the year, so, overall, we have to be happy with our recent performances.

“With the games being off it is difficult to get any momentum going. We have been training pretty hard but there is no real substitute for competitive football.

“Turriff are flying high. Ross Jack has got them playing really well. They aren’t conceding many goals and they’re very dangerous on the attack with the quality of players they have in the squad.”

Jack said: “Nairn County have players who can really cause damage in the forward area if you allow them to, especially Conor Gethins, who has a great eye for goal as his record at Nairn has proved, so he will definitely be one to watch.

“But if you concentrate too much on him Sam Urquhart and Robbie Duncanson have also been doing well and they also have support from midfield.

“Nairn played a high-pressing game in beating Forres Mechanics 3-0 at Mosset Park the other week and I expect the same from them when they are at home. They will try to get at us, but we will be ready for them.”
