The Breedon Highland League champions may not be crowned until April – but Craig Campbell believes Brora Rangers already have little margin for error.
The Cattachs host Inverurie Locos at Dudgeon Park today, sitting three points behind leaders Brechin City, having played a game more.
Although it’s still early in the season, boss Campbell says points spilled at this stage can be costly.
He said: “At home especially I don’t think you can afford to drop many points, although I still think there will be a lot of twists and turns between now and the end of the season.
“There are seven or eight teams at the top end who can all beat each other on their day.
“But at this stage of the season for us we want to try to get as many points on the board as possible and keep the points on the teams at the top of the table.
“Mistakes you make in the first half the season can be criminal, you can play your way out of contention.
“If you’re in and about it for the second half of the season, if you put a run of form together, you can get yourself up there.”
Consistency has been an issue at times for sixth-placed Inverurie, but manager Richard Hastings is upbeat ahead of this fixture.
He added: “This sort of game is a good marker for us in terms of where we are.
“We’re aware that Brechin went to Brora and got a good result (3-0 win), so they’re not unbreakable.
“You’ve got to look for chinks in the armour and have confidence in what we’re doing.
“If we can perform like we know we can, I think we can be a match for them.”
