Callan Gray believes the progress Turriff United are making is clear for all to see.
Despite Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Breedon Highland League leaders Brechin City, Turra are sitting eighth in the division.
Last term they finished second bottom and amassed only 18 points from 34 games.
But after only 14 outings this campaign, Dean Donaldson’s side are just a point adrift of last season’s tally.
Midfielder Gray said: “Last season, we were 17th and there were times going into certain games where you were thinking about keeping the score down.
“But now in every game we play, whether it’s Brechin, Fraserburgh or any of the big teams, we believe we can win.
“We’ve got players in our team that can give the opposition problems.
“Against Brechin on Saturday there were boys who did well and didn’t look out of place against the team at the top of the league.
“We’ve made big strides forward. We can see what the manager wants to do and we want to keep building.”
Gray netted his first league goal of the season against Brechin at the weekend and was pleased to get on the scoresheet having been challenged by boss Donaldson.
The 20-year-old added: “I saw Aaron Reid running down the right, he stumbled a bit and I managed to get in at the back post to score with a header.
“It’s something the manager has been getting on to me for – that I don’t score enough goals.
“That’s my first league goal this season and I need to get more.”
