Rothes added to Banks o’ Dee’s disappointment with a 2-0 victory in the Breedon Highland League at Mackessack Park.
Strikes in either half from Aidan Wilson and Fraser Robertson earned the Speysiders a win which moves them up to eighth in the table.
Dee had plenty of pressure in the second half, but couldn’t find the net and, after being deducted 24 points last week for fielding an unregistered player, they remain bottom of the table on -1 points.
Rothes made two changes to the side which was defeated by Fraserburgh on Saturday.
Gary Kerr and Jack Maley were both unavailable with Ben Johnstone and Jake Thomson coming in.
Dee, meanwhile, were playing their first game since October 14.
Brisk beginning
The game started at breakneck pace. Rob Armstrong fired over for the visitors in the first minute when Lewis Crosbie’s corner dropped to him 16 yards out.
But the Speysiders were quickly into their stride with Matheus Machado charging down the left flank and teeing up Alan Pollock.
His shot was deflected wide, and from the resultant corner Pollock corner Greg Morrison’s strike at the back post was blocked by goalkeeper Ross Salmon.
In the sixth minute, Wilson worked Salmon with a curler from 20 yards.
Banks o’ Dee wasted a decent opening soon after when Lachie Macleod failed to pick out Neil Gauld in space inside the area.
After that frenetic opening, both sides settled down and chances were harder to come by.
Then, in the 26th minute, Rothes took the lead in sensational style.
Wilson wriggled through two challenges and unleashed a scorching right-foot shot from 25 yards which flashed beyond Salmon before he had time to react.
Shortly after scoring, the hosts almost made it two with Pollock’s corner frantically scrambled away by the Dee defence.
The Aberdeen outfit were being nullified by Rothes in the final third.
Before the first half was over, Salmon was worked again to hold Pollock’s long-range strike and a Ryan McRitchie header.
Dee look for comeback
Within 30 seconds of the second half beginning, Banks o’ Dee could have equalised.
Lewis Crosbie robbed goalkeeper Sean McCarthy after a poor touch, but Crosbie’s tame attempt to finish from the left side of the area was blocked by Bruce Milne.
Up the other end, Wilson shot wide of the area post after being sent in behind by Fraser Robertson.
The tempo continued to be brisk with Banks o’ Dee trying to turn the screw.
Mark Gilmour had two powerful drives from long range held by McCarthy.
Then, just before the hour mark, the woodwork saved Rothes – with Neil Gauld’s glancing header from a Crosbie corner hitting the crossbar.
Midway through the second period Gilmour should have equalised, but headed Magnus Watson’s cross from the right wide at the back post.
With a strong wind in their faces, it was hard for Rothes to get forward in the second period, although Morrison did sting Salmon’s palms with a strike from the edge of the area.
As the clock ticked down, Gauld’s snap-shot was held by McCarthy, while Shane Harkness sent a lob wide for Rothes.
But, in the second minute of injury time, the Speysiders secured victory with Harkness winning possession off Salmon and finding Robertson, who netted from 20 yards.
