Greg Morrison targeting success after extending Rothes stay

Greg Morrison wants to win trophies with Rothes after extending his stay with the club.

Greg Morrison hopes to help Rothes win silverware having extended his stay with the club.

The striker penned a new deal to stay with the Speysiders until the summer of 2025 and is now targeting glory with the Moray side.

On Saturday Rothes start their GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup campaign when they tackle Brechin City at Glebe Park.

Ross Jack’s side won this competition in 2020 prior to Morrison joining and lifted the North of Scotland Cup last term, but the 24-year-old missed the final due to injury.

Morrison said: “It was a very easy decision for me to extend my contract with Rothes.

“I’m enjoying my football, I get on great with the gaffer and we’ve got a really good changing room.

“So when you consider all that it was a no-brainer really.

“In years previous the club has won the North of Scotland Cup and Highland League Cup.

“This season we have performed below expectations up to now and everyone knows that.

“So we want to get back up to where we were which is higher up the league and challenging to win cups as well.”

‘We’re confident we can put in a good performance’

Looking ahead to Saturday’s meeting with Brechin Morrison says Rothes will take confidence from Breedon Highland League victories against Banks o’ Dee and Lossiemouth in the last week.

He added: “It couldn’t be a bigger test for us going away to one of the sides at the top of the table.

“At the start of the season we lost the game 1-0 with a lot of injuries but almost got something from it.

“We’re confident we can put in a good performance, particularly after the way we’ve played in the last couple of weeks.

“We’ve had a few good results recently, it was a great win against Banks o’ Dee and then we followed it up with a good performance against a good Lossiemouth side.

“It feels like we’re on the right track and getting back towards where we were.”
