Gregor MacDonald says Brora Rangers are determined to maintain their Breedon Highland League challenge after relinquishing their grip on the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup.
The Cattachs – who were cup holders – lost on penalties to Banks o’ Dee at the weekend following a 3-3 draw at Dudgeon Park.
Although disappointed with that result midfielder MacDonald is refocusing on the league.
Brora, who face Turriff United at the Haughs on Saturday, currently sit three points behind leaders Buckie Thistle and second-placed Brechin City.
MacDonald, 21, said: “After winning the League Cup last year we wanted to go as far as we could and try to defend it.
“We’re at Brora to get to finals and win trophies, but it’s not meant to be this season.
“Going out in the first round doesn’t sit well with us but we have to push on in the league now.
“There’s a lot of football to be played in the league.
We can be proud of the second half performance after being a man down”
“Come the turn of the year we want to make sure we’re still in the mix and then push on and try to challenge from there.”
One positive MacDonald took from Brora’s cup exit was the way they battled despite having defender Mark Nicolson sent off in the first half.
He added: “Once you go to penalties it’s a lottery really, it wasn’t a great feeling for us.
“But we can be proud of the second half performance after being a man down.
“I think the positive for us was the fight the boys showed after having a man sent off and also a penalty against us that we felt was a free-kick.”
