Huntly manager Allan Hale hopes better decision-making can propel them into the Morrison Motors (Turriff) Aberdeenshire Shield semi-final.
The Black and Golds take on Inverurie Locos at Harlaw Park in the last eight tonight.
In recent weeks Huntly have faced Brechin City, Inverurie, Brora Rangers, Fraserburgh and Formartine United.
They have competed well, drawing with Brechin and Locos, but have also suffered some frustrating losses.
On Saturday Hale’s side led Formartine 2-0 in the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup but ended up losing 3-2 after conceding in stoppage time.
To get a positive result this evening Hale believes Huntly need to be a little bit sharper.
He said: “Inverurie have quality throughout their team.
“But we’re looking to put in a good level of performance and try to be the team that gets to a semi-final.
“It was disappointing on Saturday because I felt we did enough in the game to at least take it to penalties.
“For me, it boils down to good decision-making and taking our chances when we get them.
“It’s those good decisions when we get into good areas that we aren’t quite making at the minute.
“Equally we’re not defending our box well enough so if we can sharpen up a wee bit in both boxes I think the squad is capable of taking that next step.
“This is the last opportunity for us in terms of trying to win silverware this season.
“But I always back the team and if we put in the level of performance we know we’re capable of then I know we can give teams a tough 90 minutes and hopefully we can do that against Inverurie.”
Railwaymen look for more cup progress
Locos are buoyed by their League Cup victory at Fraserburgh at the weekend and boss Richard Hastings is eager to progress in another cup competition.
He added: “Allan always has them set up really well and they’ve got good players.
“The cup competitions are important and that’s not unique to us, every team will say the same.
“With these competitions, if you can win four games you win silverware rather than it stretching over the course of a whole season.
“It’s something tangible to try to achieve and the boys are hungry for it.
“If you can get a run in cup competitions it creates excitement which is why losing in the first round of the Scottish Cup was really disappointing.
“You want to have big games ahead of you to look forward to. It keeps everyone on their toes, adds to competition for places and creates excitement around the club.”
