Kacper Lewecki was pleased the first penalty he’s taken helped Banks o’ Dee keep alive hopes of silverware this season.

The 19-year-old defender netted the decisive spot-kick in Dee’s shoot-out success against Brora Rangers in the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup on Saturday.

Lewecki, a product of the Spain Park club’s youth set-up, revealed he had never taken a penalty before prior to stepping up at Dudgeon Park.

He said: “I wasn’t fancying taking it to be honest, but I managed to get the job done.

“The boys that missed were disappointed, but that can happen and it doesn’t matter, at the end of the day we found a way to get through.

“There are always nerves there stepping up but that’s a good thing and thankfully I managed to score.

“I’ve never taken a penalty before, not even in youth football, that was the first time I’ve taken one and it was quite important but thankfully I scored.”

Hopefully we can keep going and get further in the competition…”

Banks o’ Dee fell at the first hurdle in both Aberdeenshire competitions this season, while their points deduction for fielding an unregistered player scuppered hopes of a Breedon Highland League title challenge.

But Lewecki hopes Jamie Watt’s side – who will play Forres Mechanics in the quarter-final on December 3 – can go all the way in the League Cup.

He added: “The Highland League Cup is something to play for until the end of the season so Saturday was very important.

“Hopefully we can keep going and get further in the competition because it’s an opportunity for us to have some success.”
