Dean Donaldson admits Turriff United have looked like two different teams in recent weeks but hopes they can produce their best in the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup.
Turra face Inverurie Locos at the Haughs in the quarter-final of the League Cup.
United’s last two outings have differed significantly. Last weekend they lost 2-1 to Keith in the Breedon Highland League, while prior to that they beat Clachnacuddin 4-0 in the first round of this tournament.
Manager Donaldson said: “It’s a cup competition and on any given day we can win any game.
“I’m just hoping we’re on a good day because if we’re on a bad day it’ll be a long afternoon.
“But on our good days we can cause any team problems.
“Last week wasn’t good for us, but in the game before against Clach we took our chances and played some really good stuff at times.
“But watching the respective games you’d have thought it was two different teams.”
It’s six years since Inverurie won a trophy and manager Richard Hastings is keen to end that run.
He added: “It’s an important game for both sides and in cup competitions there’s always plenty to play for.
“I think you need to look at stepping stones in terms of progression.
“If you can win a cup the confidence and belief that can generate for individuals and the team can be massive.
“It’s not easy to do but that’s the goal for us to try to win some silverware and use that as a stepping stone to keep progressing.”
