Nairn County destroyed Rothes with their distinctive fast-flowing brand of attacking football in Saturday’s Highland League encounter at Mackessack Park.

The visitors were 4-0 up after only 16 minutes and cruising 7-0 at the break before a goalless final half hour.

Nairn manager Les Fridge said: “We’ve had a few players missing and we’ve had to change things about with Sean Webb and John Cameron coming back into the side, so over the piece it was a very pleasing performance.

“I suppose it was a combination of ourselves being very good on the day and Rothes being disappointing, but in the first half especially we scored some very good goals.

“Rothes did make it tough for us in the second half though.”

County opened the scoring in the third minute through John Cameron, three minutes later Sam Urquhart doubled Nairn’s advantage, Alan Pollock’s 14th minute long-ranger made it 3-0 and two minutes later Cameron added another.

The visitors scored three more before the break through Robbie Duncanson’s spot kick, Cameron completing his hat-trick and Urquhart.

Two further second half strikes followed – Duncanson scored his second of the game before Martin Macdonald completed the rout.
