Forres Mechanics came back from a goal down to record their third straight win over Huntly at Christie Park on Saturday.
Former Black and Golds captain Stuart Soane – who also represented Inverness, Peterhead and Formartine United – was the hero, coming off the bench to score a late winner.
Forres manager Charlie Rowley said: “In terms of the goals we got we rode our luck.
“I think Simon Allan’s goal was a cross and it managed to sneak in.
“Stuart Soane’s effort also took a deflection and looped over the goalkeeper but I think we deserved a bit of luck on the day.
“Our second-half performance was better than the first on a day when overhead conditions spoiled the game.
“Soane had been carrying a thigh injury and wasn’t fit enough to start the game, but in the end Scott Moore coming off with a dead-leg worked in our favour.”
Huntly took the lead just after the half-hour mark, Ian Cruickshank played in midfielder John Urquhart who took a touch before firing in his first goal for the club.
Midway through the second half Can-Cans defender Allan cut in from the right flank, his intended cross gathered pace in the wind and came off the inside of the far post for the equaliser.
With nine minutes left Cruickshank lost possession in his own half, Forres counter-attacked and Soane’s strike from the edge of the area took a wicked deflection off a Huntly defender to find the net.
Huntly assistant manager Mark Gray said: “Not doing the right things at the right time is killing us.
“Ian Cruickshank has come in and apologised, saying he should have played the ball up the line before we lost possession.
“From that they broke and scored the winning goal.”
